Terms of Use
The licence, the subscription, and what CoordKit's measurements must not be used for.
Effective 12 September 2026·Last updated 12 September 2026
The short version. CoordKit is a consumer instrument, not a survey instrument. Its coordinates and measurements come from a phone's GPS receiver and public data, and they can be wrong. Do not use them for navigation, for legal boundaries, or in any situation where being wrong could hurt someone. Pro is a subscription billed by Apple or Google; you cancel it there, not with us.
1. Agreement to these terms
These Terms of Use ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and Dewmina Udayashan ("we", "us") governing your use of the CoordKit mobile application and everything in it ("the app"). By downloading, opening or using the app you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
You must be at least 13 years old (16 in the EEA and UK) to use CoordKit. If you are using it on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are authorised to accept these Terms for it.
Our handling of your information is described in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
2. Your licence to use CoordKit
We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use one copy of the app on devices you own or control, for your own personal or internal business use, in accordance with the rules of the store you obtained it from.
This is a licence, not a sale. We keep all rights not expressly granted here.
3. Free features and CoordKit Pro
CoordKit is free to install and contains no advertising. The free version shows your live position, its accuracy and address, the consumer coordinate formats, place search, the map, and a limited number of saved points.
CoordKit Pro unlocks the tools: coordinate conversion, distance and area measurement, the compass, speed, elevation, the coordinate-stamped camera, UTM and MGRS formats, satellite imagery, export and import, guidance, and unlimited saved points. We may change which features sit on which side of that line in future versions; if a feature you already paid for is removed, §15 applies.
4. Subscriptions, billing and renewal
Pro is offered as an auto-renewing subscription and, where available, as a one-time purchase. All prices, periods and trial lengths shown in the app come from the store and are displayed before you buy.
- Payment is charged to your Apple App Store or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase. We never see or handle your payment details.
- A subscription renews automatically at the then-current price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- You can manage and cancel your subscription in your store account settings at any time: on iOS, Settings → your name → Subscriptions; on Android, Google Play → Payments and subscriptions.
- If prices change, the store will notify you and your consent will be sought where the store requires it. You can cancel before the change takes effect.
- A one-time "lifetime" purchase means for the lifetime of the CoordKit product as distributed by us. It does not oblige us to publish the app indefinitely.
5. Free trials
Where a free trial is offered and you are eligible for it, the trial converts into a paid subscription automatically at the end of the trial period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. Eligibility is determined by the store, not by us, and the app only advertises a trial when the store reports you can take it. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited if you purchase a subscription during the trial.
6. Cancellation and refunds
Cancelling stops the next renewal; it does not retroactively refund the current period, and you keep Pro until that period ends.
Refunds are handled entirely by Apple and Google under their own policies — we cannot issue, approve or deny them. For iOS, request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. For Android, use the Google Play refund process. Statutory rights of withdrawal that apply where you live are unaffected by this section.
7. Accuracy — read this one
CoordKit is not a survey, navigation or safety instrument.
Coordinates, elevations, bearings, distances, areas and speeds shown in the app are estimates produced by consumer hardware and public data sources. They can be wrong, sometimes substantially, and you must independently verify anything that matters.
Do not use CoordKit as a primary or sole source for:
- navigation of aircraft, vessels or vehicles;
- determining, disputing or recording legal property boundaries, cadastral limits or land titles;
- engineering, construction or survey work requiring certified accuracy;
- emergency response, search and rescue, or reporting your position to emergency services;
- any activity where an inaccurate position could result in injury, death, environmental harm, or financial or legal loss.
Specifically, and without limiting the above:
- Position accuracy depends on your device's GNSS receiver, sky visibility, atmospheric conditions and nearby structures. The app displays the accuracy figure the device reports, and limits the number of decimal places it prints to what that accuracy justifies — but that figure is itself an estimate produced by the device, not a guarantee.
- Elevation is taken from a third-party public terrain dataset (Open-Meteo) where available, and otherwise from your device's own altimeter or GNSS altitude. The app tells you which it used. Neither is a surveyed height, and datum differences of several metres are normal.
- Distance and area are computed on a spherical model of the Earth. They are approximations, and error grows with the size of the area measured.
- The compass reads your device's magnetometer, which is affected by nearby metal, magnets, electronics and vehicle bodies, and requires calibration.
- Addresses and place results come from third-party services and may be outdated, imprecise or wrong.
- Maps and imagery are provided by Google and may not reflect current ground conditions.
You are solely responsible for deciding whether the app's output is fit for what you are using it for, and for verifying it by appropriate means when it is not.
8. Prohibited uses
You agree not to:
- use the app to stalk, harass, surveil or track any person without their informed consent, or in any way that violates privacy or anti-stalking laws;
- use the app for any unlawful purpose, or to trespass on or interfere with property you have no right to enter;
- reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble or attempt to derive the source code of the app, except to the extent this restriction is prohibited by applicable law;
- copy, modify, rent, lease, lend, sell, sublicense or redistribute the app or any part of it;
- circumvent, disable or interfere with the purchase, entitlement or feature-gating mechanisms, or access Pro features without paying for them;
- scrape, bulk-extract or resell map, place, address or elevation data obtained through the app, or use the app in breach of the terms of the third-party services in §10;
- use the app to build a competing product, or to create a dataset for training machine learning models.
9. Your content
Points, labels, notes, measurements and photos you create in CoordKit are yours. They are stored on your device; we do not host, access, monitor or claim any licence over them. You are responsible for keeping your own copies — export your points before uninstalling, changing device, or clearing app data. We are not liable for content lost through deletion of the app, device loss or failure, or operating-system behaviour outside our control.
10. Third-party services
CoordKit displays and relies on services operated by others, including Google Maps, Google Places, Apple and Google geocoding, and Open-Meteo elevation data. Your use of those parts of the app is also subject to those providers' terms, and we do not control and are not responsible for their content, accuracy or availability. Google Maps content is additionally governed by the Google Maps/Google Earth Additional Terms of Service.
11. Intellectual property
The app, its name, its design, its interface and all software in it are owned by Dewmina Udayashan and protected by copyright and other laws. Map data, imagery and place information belong to their respective providers. Nothing in these Terms transfers any of those rights to you.
12. Availability and updates
We may update, change or discontinue the app or any feature at any time. Some updates are delivered through the App Store or Google Play; some are delivered as over-the-air code patches to an installed version. Updates may be required for the app to keep working. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, and features that depend on a network or on a third-party service will not work when those are unavailable.
13. Disclaimer of warranties
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT ANY COORDINATE, MEASUREMENT, ELEVATION, BEARING OR OTHER OUTPUT WILL BE ACCURATE OR SUITABLE FOR ANY PARTICULAR PURPOSE.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so some of the above may not apply to you. Where consumer law gives you guarantees that cannot be excluded, those guarantees apply and nothing here limits them.
14. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, PROPERTY, OR FOR PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE APP, OR YOUR RELIANCE ON ANY POSITION, MEASUREMENT OR OTHER OUTPUT IT PRODUCES, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE APP WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE APP IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) USD 50.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.
15. Termination
You may stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it. We may suspend or terminate your licence if you materially breach these Terms, in particular §8. If we discontinue the app entirely while you hold an active paid subscription, we will stop future billing; any refund for the unused portion is handled by the store under its policies. Sections 7, 9, 11, 13, 14, 16 and 17 survive termination.
16. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Sri Lanka, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and the courts of Sri Lanka have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute. If you are a consumer resident in the EEA, the UK or another jurisdiction whose law grants you the protection of your local courts and mandatory consumer law, this section does not deprive you of that protection.
Before starting formal proceedings, please contact us at support@dewmina.dev — nearly everything is faster to resolve that way.
17. Notice for Apple App Store users
This section applies if you obtained the app from the Apple App Store, and prevails over anything inconsistent elsewhere in these Terms:
- These Terms are between you and Dewmina Udayashan only, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
- Apple has no obligation to furnish any maintenance or support for the app.
- If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the app.
- Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim by you or a third party relating to the app, including product liability, failure to conform to legal or regulatory requirements, and consumer protection or privacy claims.
- If a third party claims the app infringes its intellectual property, Dewmina Udayashan, not Apple, is responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement and discharge of that claim.
- You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as "terrorist supporting", and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and, upon your acceptance, have the right to enforce them against you.
18. Changes to these terms
We may revise these Terms. The "Last updated" date above will change, and for material revisions we will notify you in the app or through the store before they take effect. Continuing to use the app after a revision takes effect means you accept it; if you do not, stop using the app and cancel any subscription.
